Our Mission

  • Sensitization of public (schools, colleges, university, corporates, government machineries, industrial bodies & society at large) on the abilities of the disabled
  • Mainstreaming & Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities leading to employment opportunities for the disabled in organisations

Why is disability inclusion sensitisation essential now?

With a view to bring about Disability mainstreaming & inclusion, the Indian Parliament passed the "The RPWD Act" in year 2016, an important milestone & landmark legislation.

As the name indicates, it is a rights-based legislation. It is being seen as a "game changer" and a "key driver" for inclusive development in the country. The Act provides protection to all people with disabilities against discrimination and also promotes equal opportunity and accessibility. All establishments - government, private and Non-Government Organisations - are covered under the Act and there are specific mandates for them to comply with.

Among many significant subjects dealt by the Act, SENSITISATION & AWARENESS BUILDING in Government, PSU's, Corporate establishments, schools, colleges, Universities all public interfacing areas like Police, Judiciary, panchayath Raj etc has been clearly articulated & mandated in Chapter VIII, Item No 39/2/E of the Act.

Our Guides

The guides & trainers of Dialogue in the Dark are blind or visually impaired people. They lead visitors through the exhibitions providing an imaginative, educational and entertaining experience. Progressing from initial disorientation to the joy of perceiving the world through the other senses, blind guides enable visitors to feel comfortable and safe during the exhibition tour.

We believe that the opportunity to work in the exhibition empowers blind people, as they become aware of their different abilities, their value and beauty, personality and energy. Guides working for an exhibition perceive this as a chance to move from unemployment and a sense of limitation to a fulfilling work with a social context.

The guides join Dialogue in the Dark because they believe in its mission and feel honoured to help raising awareness towards inclusion and diversity. Most importantly, it provides them a platform to become an active contributor to the society from being a passive receiver of care and services. Potential exhibition guide candidates undergo a strict selection process. If there is the potential to develop positive attitude, mobility and orientation, communication and presentation skills, they undergo an intensive training.

Dialogue in the Dark is rated as
"25 must-do lifetime experiences in the world"
